RFK Apologizes For Controversial Ad

Robert F. Kennedy made a splash last night during the Super Bowl, but not everybody in the family was on board. The independent candidate expressed regret to his relatives for the advertisement that prominently highlighted his association with his uncle, former President John F. Kennedy after it caught them off guard and they complained on social media.

RFK, Jr.’s cousin, Bobby Shriver, took the ad to task:

Fox News reported that “RFK Jr. argued that the group responsible for the ad, the American Values Super PAC, did not consult with him or his campaign when making the ad. RFK Jr., who is running for president as an independent, nevertheless pinned the video to the top of his profile on X.

‘Bobby. I’m so sorry if that advertisement caused you pain. The ad was created and aired by the American Values Superpac without any involvement or approvals from my campaign. Federal rules prohibit Superpacs from consulting with me or my staff. I send you and your family my sincerest apologies. God bless you,’ RFK Jr. replied.”

He also later made a more general apology to his upset family members, but also “pinned” the ad on his Twitter account. 

 

American Values Super PAC, the group that ran the expensive ad worth roughly 7 million dollars was less apologetic than the candidate they support. 

“The panicked DC power brokers are working overtime to keep Kennedy off the ballot because they know he can and will end their culture of greed and corruption,” American Values 2024 co-founder Tony Lyons said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital.

“They offer us soaring inflation, forever wars, and chronic disease. RFK Jr. offers us real change along with freedom, trust and hope. Like his uncle and his father, Kennedy is a corruption fighter, and it’s no wonder the DNC is trying every old trick and inventing new tricks to stop him. The public sees through it all and won’t stand for it.”

Democrats have been worried about RFK Jr. ever since he announced his bid as an independent. On Friday, they Democratic National Committee, which has tried to make the 2024 election about “protecting our democracy,” filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Committee, hoping to keep the Democratic dynast off of the ballot. 

NBC News noted that the party argued the independent campaign “is receiving an improper benefit from the super PAC’s work to qualify him for state ballots.

Kennedy has only qualified for the ballot in Utah so far, but American Values 2024 started hiring signature-gathering vendors in key battleground states at the start of 2024. And just last week, it announced it would be funding ballot access efforts for Kennedy in five additional states.”

In response to the complaint, Lyons took the DNC to task, saying, “the DNC wants to deny millions of people their basic constitutional voting rights in a relentless onslaught against democracy.”
