According to a new report, the Biden administration is currently drafting a memo that will instruct Customs and Border Protection to start releasing immigrants into the country without court dates or the ability to track them after more than 11,000 migrants were apprehended trying to cross the southern border on Tuesday.
To reduce congestion, the Biden administration started releasing immigrants without court dates in March 2021, although those immigrants had already been registered in a program called Alternatives to Detention, which required them to check in on a mobile app until they were finally granted a court date.
Instead of enrolling them in the program, the new policy would release them on parole with a notice to appear at an ICE office.
A record number of border apprehensions—more than 11,000—were made in a single day, exceeding the Department of Homeland Security officials’ prediction of 10,000 per day in the event that Covid restrictions are lifted late on Thursday.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will get instructions in a document that the Biden administration is currently drafting.
Ahead of the termination of Title 42, a Trump administration expulsion order, on May 11, Border Patrol processing facilities have already reached their capacity in a number of southern border districts.
DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas attempted to claim that individuals who would be released without any tracking device are a small percentage of the persons we encounter at a news conference on Wednesday.
The goal of the project is reportedly to enable Border Patrol to concentrate more effectively on unwelcome foreigners.
