Fox News host Laura Ingraham is urging President Donald Trump to find a path out of the ongoing conflict with Iran, warning that the war could become a political liability for Republicans as the midterm elections rapidly approach.
During Monday’s edition of The Ingraham Angle, the primetime host argued that time is running short for the administration to bring the conflict to a close before voters head to the polls in just over 100 days.
Her comments came after the United States carried out its 10th consecutive night of strikes against Iran on Monday. According to the article, the continued military campaign followed Iranian strikes on Jordan over the weekend that killed two active-duty U.S. Army soldiers. Another U.S. soldier was reportedly killed in Iraq while disposing of an Iranian drone.
The article states that at least 17 U.S. service members have been killed since President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched the conflict in February.
The fighting has intensified in recent weeks after a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran collapsed. According to the article, that breakdown led Iran to re-close the Strait of Hormuz while the United States reimposed its blockade of Iranian vessels operating in the Gulf of Oman.
Against that backdrop, Ingraham warned that Republicans face growing political pressure if the conflict continues through Election Day.
“With the midterm elections a little more than 100 days away, the clock is ticking for President Trump to get out of this war before voters head to the polls,” Ingraham said during her broadcast.
She added that the conflict has become a source of concern within Republican circles.
“It’s making a lot of Republicans nervous,” she said. “It’s already, as we know, unpopular.”
Ingraham also pointed to public opinion data, citing a new Washington Post/Ipsos poll that she said found 69% of Americans disapprove of the handling of the conflict.
“Republicans cannot let this become an endless distraction, especially if they want to win in November,” she said.
Ingraham’s remarks echoed concerns voiced earlier in the day by veteran Fox News political analyst Brit Hume.
Appearing on Special Report, Hume argued that the conflict has placed Trump in a politically difficult position because of his previous pledge to avoid prolonged military engagements.
“And he promised to keep us out of endless wars or unsatisfactory wars, and now he’s in one, and it’s not at all clear how it’s gonna end,” Hume said.
Hume suggested that the president is politically vulnerable on the issue and said bringing the conflict to a conclusion could become increasingly important as the election draws closer.
“So, he’s vulnerable on this point, and in political terms, he does need to get this over with,” Hume said.
At the same time, Hume acknowledged that ending the conflict may require more time than the administration has available before voters cast their ballots.
“But what he may need is time, and he doesn’t have a lot of time,” he added.
The comments from two prominent Fox News personalities underscore concerns about the political implications of the ongoing conflict as Republicans prepare for the upcoming midterm elections. While the administration continues its military response to Iran following attacks on U.S. forces, both Ingraham and Hume argued that a prolonged conflict could create additional political challenges heading into November.
