President Donald Trump announced Monday that Iran has requested a meeting with the United States, signaling a potential diplomatic development following days of renewed tensions between Washington and Tehran.

In a post on Truth Social Monday morning, Trump said the Islamic Republic had reached out for talks and indicated the meeting would take place almost immediately.

“IRAN HAS REQUESTED A MEETING,” Trump wrote in all capital letters.

He followed with another post announcing the location and timing of the expected discussions.

“IT WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW IN DOHA!” Trump wrote.

The announcement comes after a fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran came under renewed strain late last week.

On Friday, Trump said Iran had violated the ceasefire by launching “at least” four drones at ships attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important waterways for global shipping.

The president described the reported attack as a “foolish violation,” suggesting the incident had significantly undermined the ceasefire agreement that had been intended to reduce hostilities between the two countries.

The alleged drone launches marked a sharp escalation in tensions after the agreement had been put in place, raising new concerns about the stability of the ceasefire and the prospects for preventing further military confrontations.

Despite the reported violation, diplomatic efforts appear to have continued over the weekend.

According to Axios reporter Barak Ravid, the United States and Iran agreed on Sunday to once again stop attacking one another, restoring the ceasefire after the previous breakdown.

Trump’s announcement Monday that Iran had requested a meeting suggests that diplomatic engagement is continuing even as both sides work to preserve the latest ceasefire agreement.

The president did not provide additional details about the expected meeting in Doha, including who would participate or what topics would be discussed.

His Truth Social posts also did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding Iran’s reported request for talks.

The planned meeting follows several days of heightened uncertainty after Trump publicly accused Iran of violating the ceasefire with the reported drone attacks targeting vessels attempting to navigate the Strait of Hormuz.

The waterway remains a critical route for international shipping, making any disruption to maritime traffic a matter of heightened concern.

Sunday’s reported agreement by both nations to halt attacks again marked another effort to stabilize relations following Friday’s escalation.

If the meeting announced by Trump proceeds as planned, it would represent the latest diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran as both sides seek to navigate the fragile ceasefire that has already faced significant challenges.

For now, Trump’s announcement points to a possible opening for renewed dialogue even after the ceasefire came under pressure just days earlier, with the president indicating that representatives from the two countries are expected to meet Tuesday in Doha.
