Former President Donald Trump has confirmed that he underwent an MRI scan at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center earlier this month, offering new details about his recent medical evaluation amid speculation surrounding his health. The visit marked his second examination of the year, an uncommon break from the typical annual presidential physical schedule.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday, Trump acknowledged the procedure and declared the results exemplary. “I did. I got an MRI. It was perfect,” he said. He added, “I gave you the full results. We had an MRI, and the machine, you know, the whole thing, and it was perfect.”
Pressed for specifics about the reason for the scan, Trump deferred to his medical team. “Ask the doctors,” he said, emphasizing the transparency of his report. “I think they gave you a very conclusive – nobody has ever given you reports like I gave you. And if I didn’t think it was going to be good, either, I would let you know negatively, I wouldn’t run. I’d do something. But the doctor said some of the best reports for the age, some of the best reports they’ve ever seen.”
The White House offered no additional explanation for the extra visit, which stands apart from standard presidential health protocols. At 79, Trump is among the oldest individuals to hold the presidency and has faced growing scrutiny over his physical condition.
Earlier this summer, officials disclosed that Trump had been evaluated for leg swelling and diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency—a common vascular disorder that develops when vein valves fail to circulate blood efficiently. The condition, which affects roughly 150,000 Americans each year, can lead to swelling, cramps, varicose veins, and skin changes in the lower legs. Treatment options range from medication to outpatient procedures in more advanced cases.
Observers have also noted recurring bruising on Trump’s right hand, sometimes concealed with makeup. White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella attributed the marks to a combination of “vigorous handshaking” and aspirin use, which can heighten bruising.
Earlier in the year, liberals across the internet, including some Democratic elected officials, went into a tizzy after convincing themselves that Trump had diedafter he didn’t make a public appearance for a couple of days.
The update comes as Trump remains highly active in politics, reigniting debate over the extent to which presidential candidates should disclose personal medical information. No further medical details have been released.
