Former National Security Adviser John Bolton announced on Monday that he may run for president in 2024 in a conscious attempt to derail former President Trump’s 2024 reelection effort.
Setting the groundwork to be Trump’s first official Republican primary challenger, Bolton went on to slam his former boss on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” over the weekend, after Trump had claimed that portions of the United States Constitution should be repealed or “terminated” in order to reverse Trump’s 2020 election setback.
Bolton warned during his appearance that if no other possible Republican candidates in reaction to Trump’s remarks about the constitution, “I’m going to seriously consider running.”

Bolton, who has long been noted for his strong and sometimes extreme foreign policy views, served in the Reagan administration as well as as the United States’ ambassador to the United Nations under President George W. Bush.
He then served as Trump’s national security advisor from April 2018 to September 2019, when Trump fired him due to profound disagreements over foreign policy.
During the run up to the 2020 election, Bolton had stated that he would not vote for Trump because, in his opinion, he was unfit for office.
In response,Trump also slammed Bolton, calling him “one of the stupidest guys in Washington” and repeatedly lampooning what he believed was Bolton’s love for war under any and all circumstances.
