Former First Lady Michelle Obama has now addressed circulating rumors regarding her marriage to Barack Obama during an episode of Sophia Bush’s “Work in Progress” podcast.

The 61-year-old author of “Becoming” spoke about the speculation that she and her husband of 32 years might be heading toward divorce, particularly after her absence at various major events, including former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Donald Trump’s second inauguration.

Michelle noted that when she makes personal decisions, such as declining invitations, people often misconstrue those choices, leading to unfounded assumptions about her marriage.

She expressed that “people were… they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”

She highlighted the societal pressure women face regarding their decisions and the tendency to label independent choices as negative.

During the podcast, Michelle reflected on her journey to making significant personal decisions, stating, “If not now, when? What am I waiting for?”

She emphasized the importance of self-discovery and the need to ask herself who she truly wants to be.

Reflecting on past commitments, she mentioned that she is prioritizing her desires over societal expectations, allowing her to take ownership of her life choices.

Barack Obama, while not directly addressing the rumors, made comments about their marriage during a recent event, referring to efforts he has made to improve their relationship.

He acknowledged, “I was in a deep deficit with my wife, so I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole.”
