Senator Mark Warner, D-Va., has now stated that he thinks former President Donald Trump was ultimately correct to target the China-owned video-sharing app TikTok.

Warner made the remarks during an appearance on Fox News Sunday, telling anchor Shannon Bream that the app is a significnat danger to Americans’ privacy.
“Well, I think Donald Trump was right. I mean, TikTok is an enormous threat. So, if you’re a parent, and you’ve got a kid on TikTok, I would be very, very concerned. All of that data that your child is inputting and receiving is being stored somewhere in Beijing.” Warner said during the interview.
Warner joins his voice to a variety of other politicians and authorities in the United States who have called for a crackdown on the Chinese owned TikTok.
FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr has consistently urged regulators to prohibit the app in the United States, and FBI Director Christopher Wray has warned that it adds to China’s position as the world’s leading data thief.
Wray’s remark comes only weeks after Carr urged the United States to ban TikTok outright, claiming that efforts to isolate its US-based division from its Chinese headquarters were essentially impossible.
While TikTok spokespeople have claimed that users’ data is secure, business executives have confessed under oath that the data is accessible from China, meaning that it likely is being used by the Chinese Communist authorities.
That access is also widely exploited, as shown in an exhaustive BuzzFeed piece earlier this year.
The site received audio from more than 80 internal TikTok meetings, revealing that US personnel were not allowed to access user data and had to rely on Chinese employees to do so instead.
