On January 20, the President of the United States signed an executive order that imposed upon the Secretary of the Interior the responsibility of taking all necessary steps to rename the area of the United States Continental Shelf that was formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.
This area is bounded on the northeast, north, and northwest by the states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, and it extends to the seaward boundary with Mexico and Cuba.
