In order to comply with an executive order that was signed by President Donald Trump, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) made the announcement on Monday evening that it had closed its office that was responsible for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
PBS also stated that the employees working in that office had departed the company, but that it would continue to provide services to people of all different backgrounds in the United States.
The Hollywood Reporter was informed by a spokeswoman for the non-profit organization that distributes educational content and receives some financing from the government that the office had been closed down.
“In order to best ensure we are in compliance with the President’s executive order around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion we have closed our DEI office. The staff members who served in that office are leaving PBS. We will continue to adhere to our mission and values. PBS will continue to reflect all of America and remain a welcoming place for everyone.” the individual stated.
After Trump issued a number of executive orders with the intention of cutting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs on a federal level and among federal contractors as well as private companies, the decision to close the unit was made. Additionally, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is currently facing an investigation by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as a result of Trump’s repeated threats.
PBS has made the statement at a time when Trump has threatened the firm and when it is being investigated by the Federal Communications Commission.
In November, President Trump appointed Brendan Carr to the position of head of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Carr was a Project 2025 author.
