As part of a broad new directive intended to comply with an executive order that the government recognize only two sexes, the Trump administration is now reportedly directing federal agencies to ban employees who have bought into radical gender ideology from single-sex facilities that match their so-called ‘gender identity’ by Friday and terminate any employees working on gender ideology in any capacity.
Department heads are instructed in a letter sent by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) on Wednesday to examine and eliminate funds, contracts, initiatives, and external media that “promote or inculcate gender ideology.”
The letter sent on Wednesday calls on government agency heads to close offices and programs that promote the idea that gender is not sex-related but rather exists on a spectrum, and to immediately place staff whose job description includes “promoting gender ideology” on paid leave by Friday at 5 p.m. EST.
The directive instructs agency heads to make sure that rules, documents, and forms use the term “sex,” not “gender,” and asks for the termination of training and employee resource groups that have previously “promoted gender ideology.”
The message states that agency heads must report their implementation progress by midday on February 7.
The memo released on Wednesday details the administration’s next course of action in implementing President Trump’s executive order from January 20 stating that the federal government will only recognize the male and female sexes.
The order requires federal agencies and workers to uphold laws controlling sex-based rights, protections, opportunities, and accommodations to safeguard men and women as naturally distinct sexes.
It also promises to defend women and restore biological reality to the federal government.
House Republicans previously fought to prevent Rep. Sarah McBride (D-Del.), the only transgender member of Congress, from using the women’s restroom.
Transgender people are prohibited from using the restrooms at the Capitol that most closely correspond to their gender identification, according to a new regulation established by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) in November and extended earlier this month.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) presented a measure late last year that would have prohibited transgender individuals from using restrooms on public property, such as national parks and museums.
