A new poll is now showing that Republican challenger Joe Lombardo is now leading Nevada incumbent Democrat Gov. Steve Sisolak with just one week to go before the midterm elections.
According to a New York Times/Siena College poll released on Monday, 49% of the 885 likely voters surveyed said they would vote for Lombardo, while only 45% said they would do the same for for Sisolak.
Lombardo, the Clark County Sheriff, had previously trailed Sisolak in the polls until October, but then began to gain significant ground as Republicans nationwide surged.
Sisolak has campaigned on his support for unrestricted abortion as well as left-wing gun control policies such as banning bump stocks and requiring background checks on all gun sales.
Sisolak attempted to attack Lombardo’s tenure as sheriff during the Nevada gubernatorial debate earlier this month, claiming that he failed to protect Nevadans.

Lombardo has run a campaign based mostly around issues such as safety, Second Amendment rights, education, and taxes, and has accused Sisolak of corruption and also cited a number of scandals that plagued Sisolak during his tenure as governor.
According to the survey, voters’ main concerns have remained jobs, taxes, and the cost of living.
Lombardo now leads Sisolak by 1.3 points in the RealClearPolitics polling average.
