Following a Republican lunch meeting on Tuesday, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) reportedly required medical assistance after falling.
According to a spokesperson for McConnell, the Republican leader fell after the lunch.
McConnell was observed returning to his Capitol office, accompanied by a medical team and escorted by Senate Republican Conference Chair John Barrasso (Wyo.), who served as the host of the lunch meeting.
The 82-year-old Kentucky senator appeared to be in stable condition following the accident, according to Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.), who led the Tuesday GOP leadership press conference in McConnell’s absence.
Barrasso informed a senator that McConnell had collapsed shortly after the lunch, just prior to his weekly press conference.
A medical squad that was transporting a wheelchair was observed following McConnell into his office.
Several members appeared to be oblivious of the situation as they exited, despite the fact that McConnell had spoken during the lunch.
According to McConnell’s spokesperson, he was in his office.
The incident is the most recent in a series of medical incidents that McConnell has experienced in recent years.
In March 2023, the Kentucky Republican was hospitalized after falling and sustaining a concussion while attending a political event at a Washington hotel.
He was unable to visit the Capitol for an extended period of time as a result of his injury.
In the latter part of that year, McConnell experienced a pair of instances in which he became unable to communicate to reporters.
During his weekly press conference in July 2023, he experienced a medical episode.
Lightheadedness was reported by his office. He reappeared moments later to respond to inquiries.
A little over a month later, McConnell encountered a comparable circumstance while addressing the press corps in Kentucky.
