In a statement issued on Wednesday, Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) characterized the selection of former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) as the attorney general by President-elect Trump as “merely trolling.”
Fetterman encouraged reporters to inquire about the reaction of his Republican colleagues to Trump’s decision to select Gaetz, who resigned from Congress on Wednesday night.
“It’s just nothing but trolling. And, you know, even the Republicans know who he is,” Fetterman said.
“I mean, I would describe it as god-tier level trolling, that has triggered a full-on China Syndrome to own the libs in perpetuity,” also said to an NBC reporter in a new viral clip.

Trump announced a succession of nominations on Wednesday, among them Gaetz for the nation’s highest law enforcement position.
Many Senate Republicans were taken aback by the announcement, and some expressed doubt that his nomination would be approved by the upper chamber.
The Department of Justice’s years-long investigation into allegations that Gaetz had intercourse with an underage girl will be one of the primary concerns for some Senate Judiciary Committee members and for senators in general.
Gaetz was not criminally accused, and the investigation was concluded last year.
Gaetz has denied any malfeasance.
Prior to Gaetz’s resignation from Congress, the House Ethics Committee was conducting an inquiry into allegations of sexual misconduct and illicit substance use against the Florida Republican.
The panel has lost jurisdiction as a result of Gaetz’s resignation; however, it may still vote to disseminate the report.
