Elon Musk’s political action committee, America PAC, continued its daily $1 million giveaways to voters in pivotal states on Thursday, even after receiving a warning from the Department of Justice.

Although the giveaways seemed to pause on Wednesday after recieving a letter from the DOJ, the PAC resumed the next day with two $1 million prizes distributed to winners in Wisconsin and Michigan.

According to reports, the DOJ’s Public Integrity Section sent a letter to Musk’s pro-Trump PAC, warning that the sweepstakes might breach a federal statute prohibiting payments in exchange for voter registration.

An allegation Musk has disputed on X, formerly Twitter, when he posted, all entrants needed to do was sign a petition in support of free speech and the right to bear arms in order to be eligible.

“You can be from any or no political party and you don’t even have to vote,” he added.

The initiative, which started on Saturday, has already awarded six checks.

To qualify, participants need to be registered voters in one of seven key states and must have endorsed the PAC’s petition advocating for free speech and gun rights.

The inaugural trio of winners hailed from Pennsylvania, and the fourth winner emerged from North Carolina.

A group of lawmakers pressed Attorney General Merrick Garland earlier this week to scrutinize the PAC’s monetary incentives, suggesting they might be construed as illicit voter registration payments.

“We are aware of nothing like this in modern political history,” the letter stated, according to The Washington Post.

“We recognize that they are framed as payments for signing a petition, or for referring voters who sign,” the letter continued. “But many of the payments are restricted to registered voters, so anyone who wishes to get paid must first register.”

Federal Election Commission records show Musk has contributed upwards of $118 million to America PAC, which actively supports former President Donald Trump.
