According to a poll released on Monday, former President Trump is reportedly currently leading Vice President Harris in the polls of Catholic voters in swing states.
According to a National Catholic Reporter (NCR) poll, around 50% of Catholics residing in battleground states expressed their support for Trump, while only 45% supported Harris.
Trump held a significant advantage in Wisconsin, where he outpaced Harris by 18 points among Catholics, and Michigan, where he edged out the vice president by 12 points.
Harris held a substantial advantage over Trump among Latino and Black Catholic voters in swing states, with 67 percent of Latino Catholics and 77 percent of Black Catholics supporting her.
The survey indicates that the Republican nominee maintained a 16-point advantage over his Democratic opponent among white Catholics in battleground states.
In this cycle, Catholics may be influenced by the issue of abortion, as the church regards the procedure as homicide.
In 2020, Catholic voters were divided, with half of them supporting Trump and the other half in favor of President Biden, who is the second Catholic president in the history of the United States.
The poll revealed that 51% of Catholics in swing states identify as anti-abortion, while 45% concurred with the former president’s softer position on abortion.
Trump has declared that he would veto a national abortion prohibition.
Additionally, the poll revealed that 58% of Catholics in battleground states believe that abortion should be legal.
Furthermore, the survey indicates that Trump is ahead by 8 points among older Catholic battleground state voters, who are 45 years of age and older.
Nevertheless, Harris maintains a seven-point advantage over her Republican opponent among Catholic swing state voters aged 24 and under.
