JD Vance, the Republican presidential running companion, announced on Thursday that he will participate in a debate with Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz on Oct. 1.

Additionally, he challenged his scandal ridden opponent to accept an additional debate on Sept. 18.

On Wednesday, Walz, the Minnesota governor and running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris, consented to participate in a debate hosted by CBS News on Oct. 1 against GOP VP nominee JD Vance.

It was not immediately apparent whether Walz had consented to participate in a debate on September 18.

The event could potentially distract attention from Trump’s criminal blackmail money case in New York, which is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 18, if Walz agrees to participate in a debate with Vance.

Walz has found himself under fire in recent days for his false claims that he had served in a combat zone as well as for allegations he retired early from his time in the National Guard in order to dodge a deployment to Iraq.

Last week, Trump and Harris reached an agreement to participate in a presidential debate on September 10th, which will be hosted by ABC News.
