The reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral is scheduled to take place the following weekend, according to statements made by President-elect Trump on Monday.

It was in the spring of 2019 when the cathedral was struck by a severe fire, which resulted in the fall of its spire as well as the wooden latticework that covered its roof.

“It is an honor to announce that I will be traveling to Paris, France, on Saturday to attend the re-opening of the Magnificent and Historic Notre Dame Cathedral, which has been fully restored after a devastating fire five years ago. President Emmanuel Macron has done a wonderful job ensuring that Notre Dame has been restored to its full level of glory, and even more so. It will be a very special day for all!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.

During an appearance in Minnesota, Trump, who was serving as president at the time, expressed his regret over the fire.

“It’s one of the great treasures of the world. Probably, if you think about it … it might be greater than almost any museum in the world. And it’s burning very badly. It looks like it’s burning to the ground.” Trump remarked.

He also weighed in at the time on how best to put out the fire.

The recommendation made by the president of France at the time was met with opposition from French officials.

According to a social media account for France’s Sécurité Civile, the agency responsible for civil defense and crisis management, a large number of firefighters from the Paris Fire Brigade are “doing everything they can to bring the terrible fire at Notre Dame under control.”

The reopening ceremonies for Notre Dame Cathedral are scheduled to take place the following Saturday and Sunday, as stated on the website of the cathedral.
