On Friday, Byron York, chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner and a contributor to Fox News, reportedly joined the chorus of individuals advocating for the House Ethics Committee to publish a report regarding the investigation into allegations against Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

Even in the midst of breaking news regarding Trump’s other controversial nominees, the announcement that former and future President Donald Trump intended to nominate Gaetz to lead the Department of Justice sent shock waves this week.

The provocateur from Florida’s deep-red Panhandle has no prosecutorial or judicial experience, and he has only practiced law for a brief period.

In addition to instigating a conspiracy that resulted in the ouster of former Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the speakership last year, Gaetz has also burned numerous bridges during his tenure in the House, thereby reducing his list of potential allies in Congress.

In advance of a House Ethics meeting scheduled for Friday, Gaetz, who has denied all wrongdoing, announced his resignation from his House seat on Wednesday.

The meeting is intended to determine whether or not to disclose the report.

The report should be published, according to several prominent Republicans, including Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

On the other hand, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stated that he would “strongly request” that the committee refrain from disclosing it.
