David Axelrod, a CNN pundit, reportedly declared that it was “bullshit” to speculate that President Biden could have defeated former President Trump in the 2024 election, in response to Trump’s extraordinary victory last week.
Axelrod, the former adviser to President Obama, hosted a podcast episode titled “Hacks on Tap” in which he addressed a quote that implied the president should have remained in the campaign and should have been the 2016 Democratic nominee instead of Hillary Clinton.
“I read a quote from an unnamed Biden aide saying, you know, the Obama people ran Biden out in 2016 and he would have beaten Trump, and they ran him out again this time. And he would have beaten Trump again. Bulls‑‑‑!” Axelrod remarked.
After a dismal debate performance that raised doubts over his age and ability to defeat Trump, Biden stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Harris in July, under pressure from within his own party.
Axelrod was a prominent figure in the doubting of Biden’s ability to defeat Trump months prior to the debate.
In January, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the president’s reelection campaign and stated that it was counterproductive for Democrats to disregard concerns regarding Biden’s subpar performance in significant polls against Trump.
A year prior to the election, Axelrod stated that Biden had a “50-50 chance” of prevailing and that the president, who will be 82 years old next week, is confronted with the risky endeavor of attempting to cheat nature.
There is also no new information regarding the tensions between the Biden and Obama factions.
Biden supporters frequently believe that the 46th president was underestimated by Obama’s team. In 2016, Obama famously regarded Hillary Clinton as his successor, rather than his own vice president.
