A poll released four days after President Biden withdrew from the 2024 race and endorsed Kamala Harris, indicates that the Vice President and former President Trump are virtually tied in the critical battleground state of Michigan.
In a Detroit News-WDIV-TV poll conducted this week and released late Thursday, both Harris and Trump are polling at 41 percent. Harris is currently leading by a mere third of a percentage point among general election voters in Michigan, which is well within the poll’s margin of error.
The poll also revealed that 10% of Michiganders are in favor of independent Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., while 6% are undecided.
Kennedy led with 27% of the support of independent voters, Harris followed with 26%, and Trump garnered 25%. Nearly 18% of independent voters were undecided.
Michigan is a critical transition state that Democrats have been striving to retain since Biden’s victory in 2020 and Trump’s victory in 2016.
Many Arab Americans were incensed by Biden’s handling of the Israel conflict in Gaza, which posed a challenge with voters in Michigan.
The sole Palestinian American in the House is Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D), a member of Congress who represents Michigan, a state with a substantial Arab American population.
Additionally, Trump has addressed union workers, who constitute an additional substantial demographic in the state.
Between Monday and Wednesday, 600 prospective voters participated in the Michigan poll. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
