According to a new study, one-third of Democrats believe that former President Donald Trump’s attempted assassination at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday was staged.

According to the Morning Consult study, 34% of Democratic voters believe Trump staged the attack. Only 45% thought the theory improbable.

According to the survey done days after former President Donald Trump’s ear was grazed by a bullet in Pennsylvania, three in five voters blamed American political speech for the political environment that led to the incident.

Notably, 38% of voters also believed Trump was somehow at fault for the violent incident.

Over half of those surveyed, including 53% of Biden backers and 52% of Trump supporters, said they were “very concerned” about election-related violence this year, while roughly two in every five said they were “somewhat concerned,” with no variation based on candidate support.

Approximately one-fifth of respondents believe the gunfire was faked and not intended to kill Trump, including a third of Biden backers and 12% of Trump supporters.

The findings are shocking and demonstrate the level at which conspiracy thinking has infiltrated the Democratic party’s rank and file.
