After the failed attempt on his life over the weekend, former President Trump announced on Sunday that he had revised his speech for this week’s Republican National Convention to emphasize togetherness.

“The speech I was going to give on Thursday was going to be a humdinger,” Trump said in a statement to the Washington Examiner.

“Had this not happened, this would’ve been one of the most incredible speeches. Honestly, it’s going to be a whole different speech now.” he continued.

“This is a chance to bring the whole country, even the whole world, together. The speech will be a lot different, a lot different than it would’ve been two days ago,” he added.

The former president added that the address will now center on how the campaign has changed as a result of the attack on his life, rather than its original goal of thrilling his voter base.

Sunday marked Trump’s arrival in Milwaukee for the convention, following the assassination attempt against him the previous day at a Butler, Pennsylvania, campaign rally.

According to officials, the gunman and one attendee were both slain, while two additional observers were hurt.

Leading Trump aides verified shortly after the massacre that the former president would still be attending the Republican convention.

On Sunday, Trump expressed excitement about addressing the nation in Wisconsin.

It is widely anticipated that the former president will announce his running partner during the convention, most likely on Monday, after he formally accepts the GOP nomination on Thursday night.

Early on Sunday morning, police identified the gunman as Bethel Park, Pennsylvania resident Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20.

According to investigators, they are still attempting to identify a motive.
