As President Biden launched this week’s session of the Western military alliance, former President Trump reportedly attacked funding for NATO and the war in Ukraine.

Trump has frequently attacked how much more than the other members of the organization the United States spends on NATO.

He claimed to be the reason of NATO’s strength in social media posts on Tuesday, implying that the alliance could not function without him.

According to the former president, there is a “similar problem” with the amount of aid that the United States provides to Ukraine in support of its conflict with Russia.

“When I became President, I noticed that there were only 7 of the 28 Countries, that were then Members, who were paid up. Most Members were delinquent, some having paid very little, if anything. I found this unacceptable, and insisted that they pay if they wanted the protection of the U.S. Billions of Dollars came pouring in.” Trump said in a recent Truth Social post.

“No other President did anything about these long term delinquencies. The Secretary General of NATO said it was “incredible” what “President Trump had done.” It made NATO viable again. Now we have a similar problem. The U.S. is paying most of the money to help Ukraine fight Russia. Europe should at least EQUALIZE! They owe more than 100 Billion to do so. Crooked Joe has never even asked them to do so.” he continued.

In remarks made on Tuesday to open the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., Biden stated that 23 members of NATO are now meeting the milestone that Trump has pushed for: two percent of GDP to be allocated to defense.

Just nine NATO nations were allocating two percent of their GDP to defense in 2020, Biden pointed out, omitting any mention of Trump.

After Biden’s speech, Trump blasted Biden once more in a different post on the alliance’s budget and claimed victory over getting more members to contribute their fair part.

Additionally, he restated that, had he been president, he would have already ended the conflict in Ukraine.
