In a new survey released on Tuesday, former first lady Michelle Obama is the only Democrat to defeat former President Trump.
According to the Reuters/Ipsos poll, Obama is the only Democrat who has an advantage over Trump in a fictitious contest, receiving 50% of the vote to 39% of Trump’s.
Merely 4% of participants indicated they would not cast a ballot at all.
In the meanwhile, the survey indicates that in a head-to-head comparison, President Biden and Trump are tied.
Each of them garnered forty percent of the vote; eight percent stated they would abstain from voting and eight more said they would vote for someone else.
The poll follows Biden’s unimpressive debate performance from last week, in which he seemed to stutter and lack enthusiasm.
Some Democrats have called for him to withdraw from the race so that someone else can take the helm in response to his dismal performance.
Vice President Harris, who received 42 percent in a head-to-head matchup with Trump, who received 43 percent, was one of the other Democrats suggested as possible Biden replacements in the poll. In a fictitious matchup with the presumed GOP nominee, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) was behind Trump by 5 points and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) by 3 percentage points.
In recent days, the White House and the Biden campaign have attempted to allay worries regarding the president’s performance in the debate and have rejected calls for him to halt his campaign.
1,070 adults in the United States participated in the online survey from July 1–2, which has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
