Former President Trump is reportedly slated to hold a rally in Virginia following next week’s presidential debate, as his team claims the state could be in play in November.
The former president will be accompanied by Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R).
This will be the first public appearance the two have made together during the 2024 campaign.
The Trump event will most likely be held next Friday near Virginia Beach, according to a second source, though the precise venue has yet to be determined.
During his successful 2021 campaign for governor, Youngkin maintained a distance from Trump and developed attention as a potential alternative to Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
However, Youngkin chose not to run for president, citing his commitment to serving the remainder of his term as governor.
Trump and Youngkin first met in person earlier this month, at Trump’s golf club in Sterling, Virginia.
Polling indicates that Virginia might be a lot closer contest than it was in 2020, when Biden won by 10 percentage points against Trump.
A Fox News poll of Virginia registered voters conducted June 1-4 found Biden and Trump tied at 48% apiece.
A Roanoke College poll taken in mid-May found the two candidates tied in a head-to-head matchup, with Biden leading Trump by two percentage points when third-party candidates were included.
