During his Thursday meeting with House Republicans, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) reportedly stated that former President Trump criticized the $61 billion for Ukraine that was enacted under Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) leadership and expressed his disinterest in providing the corruption ridden country with additional support.

Trump also argued that the United States should “pay OUR TROOPS” instead of transferring billions of dollars to Ukraine, according to Gaetz.

In a meeting that Gaetz had previously compared to a “pep rally,” Trump and other House Republicans met with Gaetz, who has long been critical of sending additional aid to Ukraine, on Capitol Hill.

Some of Trump’s most vehement GOP adversaries in Congress attended his second meeting with Senate Republicans.

The meetings are the first occasion that Trump has visited Capitol Hill since the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Additionally, it occurs two weeks after a 12-member jury in New York convicted Trump of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
