During a rally, former president Donald Trump expressed perplexity to the audience when he stated that the special counsel handling his prosecution is attempting to obtain a guilty plea from the Supreme Court.
In contrast to Trump, the Supreme Court does not face an indictment.
Wednesday in Iowa, while addressing a gathering, he harshly criticized the prosecutions against him.
Two of the 91 criminal counts against him are being prosecuted in federal court by Special Counsel Jack Smith. The charges are pending in four different jurisdictions.
Trump faces prosecution in one of the federal cases pertaining to his endeavor to nullify the results of the 2020 election.
The legal representatives for Trump contend that his endeavor to undermine the election was in the course of his official responsibilities as president, and thus qualifies him for immunity from prosecution.
Smith replied by submitting an urgent petition to the Supreme Court, requesting the justices to render a decision regarding the issue of Trump’s immunity.
The court issued a response deadline of December 20 for Trump’s attorneys. The special counsel hopes to maintain the case’s March 4 commencement date.
Subsequently, he expressed strong disapproval towards Smith’s appeal to the Supreme Court, contending that it might bequest culpability.
“And, you know, now they’re saying, ‘Let’s rush it to the Supreme– we gotta rush it, rush it, rush it. They could have started three years ago. Everything– nothing changed. They could have started three years ago, but they didn’t. They started just recently with this crap.” he said.
“And then they saw I was running and they waited and then they saw I was hot. And they filed lawsuits. These are very dishonest people. That’s called election interference. These are very– and now they’re fighting like hell because they want to try and get a guilty plea from the Supreme Court of the United States, which I can’t imagine, ’cause you have presidential immunity.” Trump added.
“But strange things happen. But they want to get that because that’s the only way they’re going to win the election. It’s a very sick thing.” he continued.
