Tom Emmer (Minn.), the House Majority Whip, was named as the GOP’s third candidate for Speaker this morning. But his campaign ended up being over extremely quickly

Emmer decided to withdraw from the process on Tuesday as it became clear that resistance from several Republicans would make it difficult for him to get a majority on the House floor.

After former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) was ousted earlier this month, he joined Majority Leader Steve Scalise (La.) and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (Ohio) on the list of unsuccessful Speaker nominees.

Earlier today, Reps. Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Kevin Hern (R-Okla.), who were defeated by Emmer, are now back in the race.

After Emmer’s nomination on Tuesday, the former president referred to him as a “Globalist RINO” and claimed that Emmer, who oversaw the National Republican Congressional Committee during the 2022 election cycle, never respected his endorsements.
