Mayor of New York City Eric Adams reportedly warned that the continued influx of migrants will “destroy” the city.
In light of concerns for immigration reform and border security, thousands of asylum seekers have been bussed into New York over the past year, placing the city under stress.
Adams has warned about this strain for the past year. Adams hosted a town hall on Wednesday when he acknowledged he doesn’t see a resolution to the migrant situation and forewarned it will inevitably have an impact.
“Let me tell you something, New Yorkers. Never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to. I don’t see an ending to this. I don’t see an ending to this. This issue will destroy New York City. Destroy New York City.” Adams said.
“We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month… Now we’re getting people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they’re going to come through the southern part of the border and come into New York City.” he continued.
Adams also used the town hall to express his concerns that the city has not received enough assistance from the federal government to deal with this flood of migrants.
More buses carrying migrants were arriving in the city while he made these comments, and according to Adam, more than 110,000 migrants had landed in New York City since last April.
