Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), one of the primary figures behind the congressional investigation into Russia’s alleged support for former President Donald Trump’s campaign, was censured by a vote of 213-209 in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Censures are formal expressions of disapproval that do not result in removal from office; in theory, censure can negatively impact a representative’s stature and relationships in Congress; however, Schiff was primarily supported by his Democratic colleagues and censured by Republicans alone.
