Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin reportedly stated on Tuesday that she believes Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) should “remain governor” for the time being, despite talk about a possible presidential run in 2024.

“DeSantis doesn’t need to [run]. I envision him as our president someday but not right now.” Palin said during a recent Newsmax interview.

“He should stay governor for a bit longer. He’s young, you know. He has decades ahead of him where he can be our president.” she continued.

Although DeSantis has yet to declare a presidential run in 2024, he is largely seen as former President Trump’s main rival for the Republican candidacy.

During the conversation, Palin also looked to be optimistic about Trump’s chances in 2024.

“I’m all about healthy, competitive primaries. That makes everybody debate more articulately and work harder and let the people know what [their] records are and visions for this country are. And so, I love healthy debate and competitive primaries.” the former Alaska Governor said.

“But when you talk about the specific people, the individual people who are looking at putting their hat in the ring … they got a lot of guts thinking they’re gonna go up against Trump.” she concluded.
