MSNBC political analyst Steve Kornacki delivered devastating political news to Democrats on Tuesday night when he outlined just how much President Joe Biden’s dismal approval numbers are likely to effect the outcome of November’s midterm elections for Democrats, and not in a positive way.
According to RealClearPolitics, Biden’s average job approval rating is 42.7%, and he has a double-digit net disapproval rating for his management of the economy, crime, inflation, and immigration.
Kornacki’s analysis involved a chart with a list of the names of past presidents along with their approval numbers at the time of their respective midterm elections and then the electoral results.
Without fail the chart showed that Presidents who had poor approval numbers also saw their party suffer considerably in midterm elections.
Biden compared Biden’s dismal approval numbers to that of former presidents Clinton, Obama and Trump and noted that all three later suffered major losses in the midterm elections.
“The only exception in modern times, George W. Bush, a year after 9/11,” Kornacki said. “You see what this meant: for Trump, he lost the house in ’18, for Obama, his party lost the party in ’10, for Clinton, his party lost the house in `94. Biden’s approval rating is right in the range. That’s the bad news for Democrats.”
Democrats have been dogged by a plethora of issues related to voters perception of the Biden presidency, especially the pervasiveness of both crime and inflation. Two issues that appear to be kryptonite for Democrats as the midterm elections draw ever closer.
