Vice President JD Vance led a Nebraska rally crowd in prayer Thursday after a woman collapsed in the stands directly behind him.

Vance was in the middle of discussing “men in women’s sports” when people seated behind him could be seen yelling for help.

The vice president turned to monitor the situation before addressing the audience.

“All right, looks like we got a medical issue, everybody. So, let’s just say a prayer and hope everybody’s OK,” Vance said.

He then called for assistance from the stage.

“Hey, to my team. Grab the doctor,” Vance said into the microphone as a police officer was seen behind him helping the woman. Some rallygoers near her used their campaign placards as makeshift fans.

Vance urged the crowd to remain calm while responders went to work.

“We’ll all stay calm and let these great doctors and law enforcement do their jobs,” he said.

A few minutes later, the vice president invited the audience to join him in prayer.

“Well, everybody, while they’re working on her, maybe those who are of the praying type would join me in a prayer,” Vance said.

Vance then made the sign of the cross and began “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Someone in the crowd shouted, “Thank you, JD!” The vice president raised his fist in acknowledgment as others applauded.

“How’s she doing?” Vance asked before making his way into the stands to check on the woman himself.

As he returned to the podium, the crowd broke into chants of “48! 48!” in support of Vance as the 48th president.

Vance then delivered an update to the crowd.

“OK, all right. Let me leave you with three quick things. Number one, first of all, praise to be God. She’s doing fine, she’s doing fine,” he said to applause.

He went on to ask the audience for patience as the woman received care.

“Now, second of all, they may want to take her out of here on an ambulance,” Vance said. “So, I’m going to ask maybe somebody afterwards to give some direction to the crowd. Because if we want to maybe just keep everybody here so they can take her out in peace and comfort, we would very much appreciate that.”

Vance closed with a personal note about the woman, who he said had told him it was her first rally.

“And the third thing, I will say is, this is apparently, she just told me, is her first rally. And given that she had a lot of fun but then not so much fun at the end of her first rally, the best way that we can repay her is one by letting her get out of here to focus on her health and number two, by electing Pete Ricketts!”

With that, Vance told the crowd he would be back soon and left the stage.

The vice president later took to X to share his well-wishes.

“My prayers are with the woman who had a medical emergency at today’s rally in Nebraska. I hope she has a speedy recovery,” Vance wrote. “Thank you to the medical staff and first responders who reacted swiftly to make sure she was taken care of, and to the crowd for making sure she was able to be attended to.”
