President Donald Trump today announced the creation of “Trump Accounts,” a new program that will establish tax-deferred investment accounts for every newborn American. Introduced during the Invest America Roundtable at the White House, the initiative forms a key pillar of the One Big Beautiful Bill and promises to seed each account with a $1,000 government contribution.

Designed to grow alongside the economy, these accounts will be privately managed by the child’s legal guardian, track a broad stock index, and permit up to $5,000 in annual private contributions. The goal: to leverage compound growth and give every American child a financial foundation from birth. President Trump called the program a generational investment in American prosperity.

Leading voices in business praised the move. Dell CEO Michael Dell noted that a financial head start significantly improves lifelong outcomes, while Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon said the accounts would help “connect young Americans to the power of long-term investing.” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi described the initiative as “a launchpad” that gives every child a stake in the world’s leading companies. Brad Gerstner of Altimeter Capital added that the accounts mark a return to the principle of broad-based ownership.

Lawmakers echoed the sentiment. Speaker Mike Johnson likened the accounts to a 401(k) for newborns, calling it a bold idea that begins building wealth on day one. House Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith emphasized the program’s universal reach, saying it will benefit children whether they grow up on “a city block or a county road.”

The Trump Accounts provision is part of a broader legislative package that includes sweeping tax cuts, an expanded child tax credit, and policies aimed at wage growth and middle-class revitalization. The White House characterized the initiative as central to President Trump’s vision of an “ownership society,” where every child has a tangible stake in America’s future.
