President Donald Trump reportedly issued a stark critique of Russian President Vladimir Putin, declaring that he has “gone absolutely CRAZY” and warning that Putin’s ambitions in Ukraine could lead to the “downfall of Russia.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed deep concern over the ongoing war and criticized both Putin’s military actions and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s rhetoric.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him,” Trump stated, condemning the violence that has engulfed Ukraine.
He noted the indiscriminate missile and drone strikes targeting Ukrainian cities, asserting that these actions were unnecessary and destructive.
“He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers,” Trump emphasized, reiterating his belief that Putin desires complete control over Ukraine.
The president’s comments come at a time of escalating tensions and shifting dynamics in international relations.
In recent remarks, Trump suggested that Putin’s aggressive stance could ultimately lead to significant repercussions for Russia itself. “If he does [take all of Ukraine], it will lead to the downfall of Russia!” he warned.
During a recent exchange with reporters, Trump was asked about his plans regarding Russia and responded tersely, implying that he would not disclose his strategies publicly.
“What, am I going to tell you? You’re the fake news, aren’t you?” he retorted, dismissing the inquiry.
Trump’s remarks were not limited to Putin; he also took aim at Zelensky, criticizing the Ukrainian president for his public statements during the conflict.
“President Zelenskyy is doing his country no favors by talking the way he does,” Trump asserted. He claimed that Zelensky’s comments exacerbate the situation, urging him to adopt a more restrained approach.
“This is a war that would never have started if I were president,” Trump insisted, characterizing the conflict as a failure of current leadership, which he attributed to Biden, Zelensky, and Putin.
“I am only helping to put out the big and ugly fires that have been started through gross incompetence and hatred.”
In the days leading up to his statements, Trump spoke with Putin for two hours, after which he expressed optimism about the potential for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. However, subsequent reports from the Kremlin indicated that no such discussions were on the horizon.
While Trump has suggested that negotiations could occur in the Vatican, Russian officials have dismissed the idea, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov questioning the appropriateness of using a Catholic venue for discussions involving Orthodox nations.
As the conflict continues to unfold, Trump’s remarks reflect not only his ongoing engagement with foreign policy issues but also his attempts to position himself as a key player in resolving international tensions.
Whether these assertions will resonate with the American public or influence the geopolitical landscape remains to be seen.
