Aboard Air Force One on Sunday, President Donald Trump signaled he has no objection to releasing the results of a recent MRI scan—results he described, in characteristic fashion, as “perfect.” Yet even as he volunteered that assessment, he conceded he is unsure what body part had been scanned. “If they want to release it, it’s OK with me to release it. It’s perfect,” he told reporters traveling with him. When pressed on what exactly the MRI examined, Trump replied, “I have no idea. It was just an MRI — what part of the body? It wasn’t the brain, because I took a cognitive test and I aced it.”

Trump first revealed in October that he had undergone the MRI during a visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The White House at the time cast the trip as part of his routine annual health evaluation, even though his formal physical had been completed months earlier, in April. Follow-up questions about the purpose of the scan went unanswered. Trump directed reporters to ask his doctors, but no explanation was provided. In early November, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt fielded the same inquiry, promising to follow up but never circling back. “Every single day the president is in optimal physical health. This was a follow-up appointment, and we provided a detailed readout of that physical,” she said then.

The administration has acknowledged at least one recent diagnosis: in July, officials confirmed that Trump has chronic venous insufficiency, an age-related vascular condition in which weakened valves disrupt blood flow and can produce swelling in the legs. The ailment is common with about 150,000 new cases being identified each year

For now, the president insists the MRI yielded nothing but reassurance. What it tested remains, at least publicly, another unanswered question.
