President Donald Trump on Friday voiced confidence that a breakthrough may be at hand in the war between Israel and Hamas, telling reporters that negotiations for a cease-fire were moving toward a conclusion.

“I think we have a deal,” Trump said as he departed the White House, describing what he portrayed as an imminent resolution to the fighting in Gaza. “It’s looking like we have a deal on Gaza, and we’ll let you know. I think it’s a deal that will get the hostages back. It’s going to be a deal that will end the war.” He added: “It’s going to be peace.”

The president’s remarks came just days after he unveiled a 21-point strategy for ending the Gaza conflict, a plan he discussed this week with Arab leaders at the United Nations General Assembly. With clashes continuing between Israel and the Houthis, Trump has cast the initiative as the best chance for restoring stability.

A senior administration official, speaking anonymously to Fox News Digital, said Trump stressed his determination to bring the fighting to a close. The official noted that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff presented the American proposal, which includes the return of all hostages—both living and deceased—an end to attacks on Qatar, and new Israeli-Palestinian talks aimed at building lasting cooperation. According to the official, international partners signaled agreement that Trump alone had the leverage to halt the violence and expressed eagerness to coordinate with Witkoff as discussions with Israel proceed.

At the Concordia Annual Summit in New York, Witkoff described a recent meeting with representatives from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan as productive. “We presented what we call the Trump 21-point plan for peace in the Middle East,” he said, emphasizing that the framework addressed Israel’s concerns while accommodating regional priorities.

The developments unfolded against a tense backdrop at the UN General Assembly, where delegates walked out of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address, one day after a Palestinian representative received applause.

Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, delivering a prerecorded message after being denied U.S. entry, declared his readiness to engage. “We declare that we are ready to work with U.S. President Donald Trump and with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France, the United Nations and all partners to implement the peace plan that was approved in the conference that was held on the 22nd of September, in a way that would lead towards a just peace and regional cooperation,” Abbas said.
