President Donald Trump named longtime aide Stephen Miller to replace Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff Friday and said he expected to make changes to his Cabinet after Republicans lost ground in the midterm elections. Trump declined to say which Cabinet members he might replace and said the election had played no part in his decision to remove Wiles.
Ross Douthat asked Trump whether he expected to fire anyone in an interview set to air Sunday on “60 Minutes,” a portion of which aired Friday on the CBS Evening News. Trump replied, “I do.”
“A little bit,” Trump said, adding, “I love my cabinet. I think they’re good, but I’ll be doing maybe a few changes. I don’t want to mention who.”

Douthat also asked whether Trump still had confidence in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, whom some Republicans have blamed in part for the party’s midterm losses. Trump replied, “I do. Look, we’ve won two wars.”
Speaking with reporters later Friday, Trump said he had decided to replace Wiles “not because of the election.” He added, “It’s just time. Sometimes you change.”
Miller served as a senior adviser to Trump and helped shape the administration’s immigration policies. Trump called him “a great fighter.”
“He’s been with me right from the beginning … he’s very loyal, smart. Does a great job. He’s been an MVP every year. He’s been just great. So, we’re very happy with him,” Trump said. “He’s gotten great reviews, I have to say.”
