President Donald Trump marked what he called a “very big day” on Thursday as Palm Beach International Airport in Florida officially adopted his name following a state-approved renaming effort.
The airport is now known as President Donald J. Trump International Airport, with crews replacing signs throughout the terminal overnight. The name change follows legislation signed into law in March by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Trump celebrated the milestone Thursday evening in a post on Truth Social, praising both the airport and the surrounding community.
“A very big day in Palm Beach, Florida, where it was my Great Honor to have the Palm Beach International Airport be renamed, by a spectacular vote, The President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” Trump wrote.
He continued by highlighting the airport’s location and ongoing improvements.
“The Area is HOT, the Location is GREAT, and the Renovation will be SPECTACULAR,” the president wrote. “Thank you to all in Palm Beach for your Vote and your Confidence. This will soon be one of the Greatest and Most Spectacular Airports anywhere in the World! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
The renaming comes as the Trump family continues to use the airport regularly when traveling to Mar-a-Lago, the president’s Palm Beach residence located nearby.
Among those aboard a flight that landed at the airport shortly after 5 a.m. was Eric Trump, who also praised the decision in a post on X.
“There is no person who has done more for Florida and our country, and no one more deserving of this incredible honor,” Eric Trump wrote.
He also noted the airport’s significance to his family and said the change carries personal meaning.
“As a son, and someone who flies out of this airport nearly every day, I will forever be proud to see the initials ‘DJT’ on my boarding pass,” he added.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also highlighted the transition by posting a video showing crews changing airport signage. In the video, Duffy also promoted the airport’s new social media account, @fly_DJT.
The airport’s transition extends beyond its name. According to the article, its three-letter airport code will officially change from PBI to DJT on Aug. 18.
The rebranding effort includes updated signs and other branding changes throughout the airport. According to PBS, state officials have estimated the total cost of the renaming project, including signage and branding updates, could reach as much as $5.5 million.
Airport officials also advised travelers that the changes will be implemented gradually rather than all at once.
In a Facebook post, officials said passengers should expect to see both the airport’s previous branding and its new identity during the transition period.
They told travelers the process would not happen “overnight” and that visitors would “notice a combination of both our classic look and our new brand elements coexisting while traveling through the terminal over the next several weeks.”
As crews continue replacing signs and updating airport branding, the newly renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport is moving through the next phase of its transition, with the updated airport code scheduled to take effect later this summer.
