President Donald Trump is receiving international acclaim after brokering the first phase of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas—an accord seen as a breakthrough in the Gaza conflict. World leaders voiced relief and gratitude after Trump announced that both sides had agreed to initial steps toward peace.

Trump shared the news Wednesday on social media, writing: “This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly!”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called it “a significant development,” saying, “This is a moment of profound relief… particularly for the hostages, their families, and for the civilian population of Gaza, who have endured unimaginable suffering.” French President Emmanuel Macron, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres offered similar praise while urging both sides to honor the deal.

The framework reportedly includes a limited Israeli troop withdrawal from Gaza, the release of all remaining hostages by Hamas, and the freeing of roughly 2,000 Palestinian detainees, wrote ABC News. Negotiations concluded in Egypt with White House Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio briefed Trump in Washington.

In Israel, leaders prepared to approve the accord. President Isaac Herzog expressed gratitude: “I wish to extend my deepest thanks to POTUS Donald Trump for his incredible leadership… There is no doubt that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.”

The Foreign Minister of Malta recently nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, as well, citing his success in negotiating peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Republicans in Congress hailed the development as “a truly historic achievement,” while the Palestinian Authority called it “a prelude to reaching a permanent political solution.” President Mahmoud Abbas’s office thanked Trump and pledged cooperation “to achieve stability and a lasting and just peace.”

Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, echoed the optimism: “It is good news, and we are very happy. It is a first stepbut now we have to rejoice about this important step that will bring new hope to both Israelis and Palestinians.”
