Rep. Jasmine Crockett reportedly launched a profanity-laced tirade against the U.S. Supreme Court after the justices temporarily allowed Texas’ new congressional districts to stand, a ruling that could significantly benefit Republicans in future elections.
In a video posted Sunday to her YouTube account, Crockett accused President Donald Trump and Republicans nationwide of trying to “rig the system” ahead of the 2026 midterm elections through redistricting. Her comments were aimed squarely at the high court, which she blamed for not immediately blocking Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s redrawn maps.
“Obviously, Trump is still doing his bidding with these state Houses and state Senates and governor’s mansions to try to rig the system,” Crockett said. She then praised Democratic strongholds and blue-state leaders for pushing back. “Kudos to Indiana for saying f— you. Kudos to California for saying we’re going to fight back,” she added.
Crockett didn’t stop there. She also directed her anger at the Supreme Court itself, using explicit language to condemn the justices for their decision. “Definitely kudos to the Trump justice who wrote the 160-page opinion denouncing what took place in Texas and f— you to the Supreme Court for what they did as well,” she said, adding that other states could soon face similar battles.
The Supreme Court issued an order in December keeping Texas’ new congressional districts in place ahead of the November elections. The maps are expected to give Republicans a major boost, potentially adding up to five new GOP seats in the U.S. House. Conservatives have argued the redraw reflects population changes and lawful legislative authority, while Democrats have portrayed it as partisan manipulation.
The ruling had direct political consequences for Crockett herself. The new maps shift her out of her current congressional district, a development widely seen as a factor in her decision to announce a run for the U.S. Senate shortly after the court’s order.
Democratic leaders in other states have responded aggressively. In California, Gov. Gavin Newsom pushed a ballot initiative in November aimed at creating five additional Democratic-leaning congressional districts, a move Republicans have criticized as blatant partisan gerrymandering.
In Indiana, however, a Republican-led state Senate declined to move forward with a new congressional map that would have added two more GOP seats, a decision Crockett cited approvingly in her video.
Beyond redistricting, Crockett used the moment to renew her call for sweeping changes to the Supreme Court itself. She pointed to her work on the Court Reform Now Task Force in 2024 and endorsed ideas such as term limits for justices and expanding the size of the court.
“I just feel like there are certain spots on the Supreme Court that were illegitimately gotten for sure,” Crockett said. She argued that reforming the court is necessary to “shore up our democracy” and restore what she described as proper checks and balances.
Her remarks immediately drew attention for both their tone and substance, with critics saying a sitting member of Congress openly cursing the nation’s highest court underscores a growing hostility toward constitutional institutions whenever Democrats dislike an outcome. Supporters, meanwhile, framed her comments as frustration with a system they believe favors Republicans.
The episode highlights the escalating rhetoric surrounding redistricting, the Supreme Court, and the balance of power heading into the next election cycle — and shows just how raw those political fights have become.
