Former Rep. George Santos, the embattled New York Republican whose brief time in Congress drew national attention, is now reportedly turning his focus toward a new chapter in life: parenthood.
Speaking on Meghan McCain’s livestreamed program “Citizen McCain,” Santos shared that he and his male partner are preparing to welcome children next year, describing the moment as a significant milestone.
“So, we are having kids next year, and that’s a big deal for us,” Santos said during the interview, emphasizing both excitement and a sense of responsibility as he looks ahead.
The former lawmaker outlined the practical and emotional considerations already underway, noting that preparations extend well beyond the basics. “We’re going to be parents next year, and we’re excited about all the preparations,” he said, referencing plans for financial stability, including college savings and emergency funds. For Santos, the process appears to be as much about long-term planning as it is about anticipation.
Yet, amid the logistical details, Santos pointed to what he views as the most important question facing him as a future parent: how to educate and raise his children. He noted that these conversations are already taking place, even before the children are born, suggesting a desire to approach parenthood with intentionality.
This is not the first time Santos has spoken publicly about becoming a parent. In a 2023 interview with comedian Ziwe, he expressed a broad and accepting outlook, stating that he would embrace his child “in any way, shape or form they come” and would aim to guide them toward becoming better than himself. The sentiment reflects a degree of introspection from a figure whose political career was marked by controversy.
Santos’s announcement comes after a dramatic fall from political prominence. Once elected to Congress, he was later expelled following revelations that he had fabricated substantial portions of his résumé and campaign finance disclosures. The scandal contributed to a rapid unraveling of his political standing.
Legal troubles soon followed. Santos was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, and he reported to prison last July. However, that chapter shifted again in October, when President Donald Trump granted him a commutation. According to Santos’s attorney, he was released shortly thereafter.
Whether this new chapter will redefine his public image remains to be seen. For now, Santos appears intent on preparing for the changes ahead.
