Veteran British actor Tim Curry, best known for his unforgettable performance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” has died at age 80.
TMZ first reported Curry’s death, saying police responded to the actor’s Los Angeles home late Tuesday. No foul play was suspected, according to the outlet.
Curry suffered a near-fatal stroke in 2012 that left him using a wheelchair. In 2025, as “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” marked its 50th anniversary, Curry said he remained unable to walk.
The actor launched his theater career in London during the 1960s before landing the defining role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 musical comedy. The film was initially viewed as a failure before developing a devoted following and becoming a cult classic.
Curry performed the movie’s signature number, “Sweet Transvestite,” while starring alongside Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon, who played Brad and Janet.
His extensive career also included appearances in the 1982 film “Annie,” the 1985 comedy “Clue” and numerous other projects.
During an October interview with Ben Mankiewicz for CBS’ “Sunday Morning,” Curry reflected on his father, a Navy chaplain who suffered a stroke when the actor was 10. Curry recalled feeling that the situation placed “an awful responsibility” on a child.
Asked during the interview whether he feared death, Curry answered, “No.”
“I don’t fear death,” he said, adding that although he tried to avoid it, he suspected he might ultimately welcome it.
Curry’s death came one day after the death of music icon Dolly Parton.
