Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has now reportedly joined a growing chorus of political figures urging President Donald Trump to decline a $400 million luxury jet offered by the Qatari government. Dubbed the “Flying Palace,” the Boeing 747-8 is intended to serve as a replacement for Air Force One.

Trump announced plans to accept the aircraft but emphasized that it would be used only during his presidency and later transferred to his presidential library.

Paul commented on the situation during an appearance on Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime.

He expressed concern about the ethical implications of accepting such a gift, citing the Constitution’s Article II, which prohibits the president from accepting emoluments or gifts from foreign leaders. “It’s not worth the appearance of impropriety, whether it’s improper or not,” he stated.

Trump’s decision to accept the plane has drawn criticism, with opponents labeling it a potential bribe. Despite this, Trump has defended the move, arguing it is legal as long as the aircraft is designated for official purposes.

Paul, however, emphasized the risks involved, suggesting that accepting the jet could lead to questionable optics.

The senator was pressed on whether he would accept a flight on the jet if offered, but he sidestepped the question, reiterating his belief that accepting the plane is a mistake.

This controversy comes amid broader discussions about Trump’s business dealings in Qatar, where his family has ongoing investments, including plans for a new $5.5 billion golf club.

As Trump prepares for a visit to Qatar following a stop in Saudi Arabia, the debate over the jet continues to heat up, with various political figures weighing in on the implications of the offer.
