Authorities in Rocky River, Ohio, have reportedly now arrested a man accused of threatening Representative Max Miller, a Jewish Republican, by running him off the road while displaying a Palestinian flag.
The incident, which Miller described as alarming and indicative of rising political hostility, has drawn significant attention and condemnation from lawmakers across the political spectrum.
Miller, who previously served as an aide to President Donald Trump, reported that he was confronted by a “deranged” individual while driving to work.
According to his account, the man honked aggressively, forced Miller off the road, and made antisemitic threats, including claims that he would harm Miller and his family.
The congressman promptly called 911, during which he was able to provide the dispatcher with the suspect’s license plate number, as well as audio evidence of the threats being shouted from the man’s vehicle.
The suspect, identified as Feras S. Hamdan, 36, voluntarily surrendered to police and was charged with aggravated menacing. During his arraignment, the judge set his bond at $500,000, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the current climate of political violence.
Judge Joseph Burke emphasized that threats against elected officials would not be tolerated, especially in light of recent violent incidents involving lawmakers, including the tragic shootings of two Minnesota state legislators.
Miller detailed the encounter in a video shared on social media, expressing concern over the escalating hatred directed at public figures. “The deranged hatred in this country has gotten out of control,” he stated, underscoring the need for accountability in political discourse. He filed reports with both local law enforcement and the U.S. Capitol Police, which has jurisdiction over threats against members of Congress.
