A late-night Super Bowl celebration in San Francisco turned violent early Monday when San Francisco 49ers lineman Keion White was shot in the leg following a reported argument with rapper Lil Baby inside a Mission Street nightclub.
The shooting unfolded in the early morning hours at a club hosting a Super Bowl party on its main floor. According to a report from The San Francisco Standard, White was hosting a separate, private event in a downstairs area of the venue at the same time.
Tensions reportedly flared when Lil Baby, whose real name is Dominique Jones, attempted to enter the private party. A witness interviewed by police told investigators that members of the rapper’s entourage were already on the club’s main floor and tried to make their way into White’s downstairs event.
The witness said White confronted Jones over the attempted entry, leading to a heated argument between the two men. The situation escalated quickly, according to the account given to police.
The witness told officers that he went upstairs to seek help from club management in an effort to calm the dispute. While upstairs, he said he heard two gunshots. When he rushed back downstairs, he found White suffering from a gunshot wound to his left leg. The witness told police he did not see the shooter and did not know who fired the shots.
Another woman who was attending the party told The San Francisco Standard that she did not witness the shooting itself but heard multiple gunshots as she attempted to go downstairs. She said she heard four shots in total, adding to the confusion and fear inside the crowded venue.
At the time of reporting, San Francisco police had not named any suspects in connection with the shooting. Authorities also said White was uncooperative when officers initially responded to the scene, limiting the information available to investigators in the immediate aftermath.
White, 27, was transported to a hospital and underwent surgery later Monday. No additional details were released about his condition beyond confirmation that the injury was to his leg.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about security and safety at large-scale nightlife events, particularly during high-profile weekends like the Super Bowl, when clubs are packed with athletes, entertainers, and fans. The presence of private events within public venues can also create flashpoints, especially when access becomes disputed.
Law enforcement officials have not indicated whether the shooting was targeted or whether the argument directly led to the gunfire, and no motive has been publicly identified. Investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and review any available surveillance footage from the club.
Neither White nor representatives for Lil Baby have publicly commented on the incident. Police have not confirmed whether Jones or anyone associated with him is considered a suspect.
As the investigation continues, the shooting casts a shadow over what was supposed to be a celebratory Super Bowl gathering and adds to ongoing debates about nightlife violence in major cities.
