According to the results of a new Gallup poll that was reportedly released on Thursday, Democrats now are more likely to indicate that they want their party to become more moderate than they were during the previous four years.
The survey, which was carried out during the first week of President Trump’s second term, was designed to determine the political preferences of respondents about the ideological direction of their respective parties.
In the Democratic Party and among independents who lean Democratic, 45 percent of respondents say they want their party to become more moderate, 29 percent say they want the party to become more liberal, and 22 percent say they want the party to remain the same.
In comparison to the last time Gallup asked this issue, which was four years ago, during the first week of President Biden’s tenure in office, this indicates a considerable shift.
According to the survey conducted in 2021, the opinions of Democrats and independents who lean Democratic were about evenly split.
Thirty-four percent of respondents wanted the party to become more moderate, thirty-four percent wanted the party to become more liberal, and thirty-one percent stated they wanted the party to remain the same.
In the meantime, Republicans and independents who lean Republican are more happy with the current state of affairs than they were four years ago, just a few weeks after the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Four years ago, forty percent of people wanted the Republican Party to grow more conservative, while thirty-four percent wanted it to remain the same, and twenty-four percent wanted the GOP to become more moderate.
The new survey, which was carried out from January 21st to January 27th, on a total of 1,001 individuals, with a margin of error of four percentage points.
