Podcast host Megyn Kelly ripped The View’s Sunny Hostin over complaints that she couldn’t get her romance novels made into movies because of Hollywood’s “racist” practices, so she had to turn to artificial intelligence.
“She is convinced that the reason her, trust me, smash hit romance novels have not been made into movies. Can you guess what the reason might be?” Kelly asked co-host Emily Jashinsky.
“Oh, I can guess, and I think it has something to do with skin color,” Jashinsky replied.
Kelly then played a clip of Hostin explaining to her View co-hosts why she licensed her likeness to a startup that makes movies using artificial intelligence.
“One of the reasons I partnered with this company is because I’ve written a trilogy, and for six years, I’ve tried to get my stories made into series and films,” Hostin said.
“And the gatekeeping in Hollywood around Black and Brown creative content is insane. I cannot get New York Times best-selling books onto the screen to tell diverse stories to diverse communities,” she continued.
Kelly noted that there are three books in the trilogy and said she had an excerpt from “Summer on Highland Beach.” She then launched into a dramatic reading of a steamy passage from the book, featuring characters named Garrett and Olivia.
Kelly read several paragraphs through fits of laughter, all the way to the passage’s climax. When she finished, Jashinsky blurted out that she was glad it was over.
Kelly was left questioning the dialogue, pointing to a line in which a character says “I miss your smile.”
“Whose sexy action talk is, ‘I miss your smile?!’ That is not how it’s done!” Kelly exclaimed.
Jashinsky suggested there might be more to the story than Hostin’s claims about Hollywood. “I think we might be missing something,” she said. She then took a sharp shot at the View host, describing her as “an expert at providing daily pornography for liberal housewives’ bored lives,” and adding, “And I think that’s what she’s doing.”
