Former Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) reportedly criticized her former party for its sudden shift in stance on the filibuster, using social media to highlight what she deemed hypocrisy among Democrats.

Sinema, who faced backlash for her vote to preserve the filibuster during her time in the Senate, created a spreadsheet to track Democratic senators who once supported eliminating the filibuster but have now voted to maintain it.

In a tweet, Sinema noted the spreadsheet included senators and candidates who had previously called for the filibuster’s abolition, juxtaposed with those who voted to uphold it.

“Turns out, someone HAS made the spreadsheet,” she quipped, sharing her findings with a sense of irony.

She specifically called out far-left Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) for her recent comments urging Senate Democrats to reject a Republican bill.

Sinema pointed out Jayapal’s previous remarks advocating for abolishing the filibuster in favor of progressive policies. Sinema remarked, “Just surprised to see support for the ‘Jim Crow filibuster’ here,” referencing Jayapal’s earlier stance.

Sinema also responded to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who expressed outrage over Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s vote to keep the government open, illustrating the discord within the party.

Ocasio-Cortez had previously criticized Sinema for not acting against the filibuster, but Sinema retorted, highlighting that many Democrats who once sought to eliminate the filibuster were now voting to use it.

Sinema’s remarks underscore the shifting political landscape and the complexities of party loyalty, as former allies grapple with the implications of Senate rules in legislative strategy.

Her commentary serves as a reminder of the contentious debates surrounding the filibuster and its impact on governance.
